The way to get man back on his feet

There is no science of man,” wrote Nobel Laureate Alexis Carrel in his celebrated book Man, the Unknown. Modern medicine, even today, nearly 85 years after the death of conventional science following Werner Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, is buried in the linear science of Newtonian Physics which believes that man is made up of matter, which follows certain deterministic predictability patterns. That was before the new awareness in science of the atom having been made up of smaller sub-atomic elements. Even more earth- shattering was the discovery that atoms emit various strange energies such as X-rays and radioactivity.
Newer discoveries in physics showed that matter and energy are the two sides of the same coin — a duality. (Hans Peter Durr). One should read his article, Matter is not made out of matter, for the lay people to get a better idea. The human body is but the human mind in an illusory solid shape. As the famous Johns Hopkins physicist, Richard Conn Henry, put it in 2005, “This world is immaterial — mental and spiritual.” Atoms are made out of invisible energy; not tangible matter. Quantum physics speaks a strange language of “now you see it, now you don't.” Each atom or molecule has its own unique energy signature.
Everything in this world, including you and me, radiates our unique energy signature. This new science, which will be the new science of man, nullifies our idea of organ based diseases, which we started 450 years ago from the time of Vesalius. All organs have their cells and atoms that have their unique energy signature. Human body is a colony of 50 trillion happy individual human cells that did exist as unicellular organisms for millions of years before getting together as this multicellular colony. Fritz-Albert Popp, a German physicist, has been able to map all our cells using his biophoton camera where he defines “health as a state where the cells are vibrating in synch with one another; disease is when they fall out of synch!” The latest development of science has now accepted the definition of Whole Person Healing (WPH) for future. (Late Professor Rustum Roy at the IOM meeting in February 2010). Time has come to abandon the disease era of medicine. We have to concentrate on the whole human organism for the future management of altered physiologies. The new definition of health is “enthusiasm to work and enthusiasm to be compassionate.” This comes close to the definition of health in Ayurveda, a much more scientific healing art, which followed quantum physics from day one long before physicists discovered quantum physics. Durr does write that the concept of Indian advaita is a better understanding of quantum world compared to his definition of a-duality.
Our old model had a linear structure which followed the Ford Motor style assembly line. If biochemical transmission failed between points A and B, the precursor chemical could accumulate at point A and point B will be depleted of it. The holistic model is that if there is any such lapse, the effect could be felt in multiple areas and systems. One example will clarify this. When you are bitten by a spider you get a severe swelling and itching in the area due to release of the powerful histamine, locally. But if you treat that with an antihistamine, the latter will go round everywhere and have dangerous distant effects even in the brain. While histamine increases capillary permeability locally producing swelling, in the brain histamine enhances the neuronal function for better output. In our present thinking we give you antihistamine and your itching stops but the same antihistamine blocks the brain histamine levels and your brain cells function less, making you very drowsy! This tells us why the biggest killer today is Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR). Further studies have shown that any drug we give helps only because of the faith the patient has got in the doctor (placebo) and the drug has only side-effects! This earth-shaking discovery was made recently in a multi-centric study in the four leading universities. (Science Translational Medicine March 2011).
Biological systems like man are redundant. This redundancy makes the same signal to be used in multiple places in the body to achieve many things economically with varied behavioural functions. This was the fallacy of our old reductionist model where we thought one defect one effect and one drug molecule to rectify it. That is why nature has just given us 25,000 genes. One gene could look after so many functions. In addition, we have trillions of genes acquired from a multitude of germs that have become a part of us over millions of years and they live a symbiotic existence, the so called human meta-genome. When we disturb the germs inside us, we fall sick! This shows how foolish our expensive search for genetic modelling and genetic engineering, including stem cell research is. In fact, studies have elegantly shown that body cells, if needed, could transform themselves into pluripotent stem cells. Richard Becker showed way back in the 1950s that while a bone fractures, the blood clot seen under the periosteum could make the red blood cells there to gradually acquire a nucleus and then put out pseudopodia to become stem cells to heal the fracture — holistic natural healing!
Physicists have failed to inform the lay public of the purely mental nature of the universe (man included) and biologists and physicians are yet to understand quantum physics. There is a nice simple book by a Nobel Laureate biologist; Albert-Szent Gyorgyi, Introduction to Submolecular Biology. Today bio-chemistry provides the mechanistic foundation for biomedicine. That branch of science is so out dated that our researchers have no understanding of the molecular mechanisms that truly provide for life. The very word animate comes from the proteins in the genetic chain. They twist and bend like a snake to give us mobility at the molecular level right up to our movements! In truth, quantum properties of matter can influence the biochemical reactions as shown above. It is the invisible forces of electromagnetic energy that keep us alive and all those frequencies like cellphones, microwave ovens, radio frequencies and even the scalar energy affect our DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. Similarly the right frequencies of electromagnetic energy could be used for healing any cell in any organ under any circumstance. We are using such frequencies to treat killer diseases like heart attacks, brain attacks and any other damage in the cells of any organ. An added advantage is that energy signals travel at a phenomenal speed of 1, 86,000 miles per second, while chemical transmission is just one centimetre per second!! While drugs take months to get one back on one's feet after a major illness, energy healing takes only hours to days!
Living organisms must receive and interpret environmental signals in order to survive. The signals reach the single cells through their antenna in the cell wall. So our connection with the outside world is through the cell wall, our true brain. The environmental signals are our true saviours, God if you like (Bruce Lipton). When this signal dies, organism dies only to enter another shell to be reborn! Eastern wisdoms like Ayurveda, Tibetan medicine, Chinese medicine and many other systems adopted quantum physics eons ago and their ideas of energy channels in the human body are now proving to be highly scientific. We condemned the whole lot of them as unscientific mainly because of the pressures from the drug and instrument lobbies.
Instead of understanding human physiology properly, modern medicine created the monsters of “killer diseases” which are nothing but deviations in physiology and behaviour from some hypothetical norm as unique disorders and dysfunctions. The gullible public thinks that they are all killer diseases, thanks to the 24X7-hour advertisements. Let us understand the human being and try and set the deranged cell frequencies with suitable alternatives to get man back on his feet.

Talk of treaty ban on mercury concerns scientists

Scientists are warning officials negotiating a global treaty on mercury that banning the deadly chemical completely would be dangerous for public health because of the chemical's use in vaccines.
The ban option is one of several proposals on the table for a meeting later this month in Nairobi, but a final treaty isn't expected until 2013.
According to the World Health Organization, mercury is one of the top 10 chemicals of public health concern and is highly toxic. Most of the worry is centered on mercury emissions from burning coal, gold mining and people eating mercury-tainted fish.
Mercury in small amounts is also found in many products including light bulbs, batteries and thermometers. WHO advises such products to be phased out, suggesting for example, that health systems switch to digital thermometers instead.
The problem is that a proposed ban might include thiomersal, also known as thimerosal, a mercury compound used to prevent contamination and extend the shelf life of vaccines, many scientists say. It is used in about 300 million shots worldwide, against diseases including flu, tetanus, hepatitis B, diptheria and meningitis.
"Not being able to use mercury is not a viable option," said David Wood, a WHO vaccines expert.
Wood said there isn't a viable alternative to thiomersal at the moment. If banned, pharmaceuticals would likely have to switch to preservative-free vaccines, which would complicate the supply chain and vaccination campaigns in poor countries, since the injections would have a much shorter shelf life. Costs would also spike since manufacturers would need to reconfigure their factories.
In 2009, the United Nations Environment Programme, or UNEP, began working on a legally binding global treaty on mercury. At the end of October, the third of five meetings to hammer out a treaty will take place in Nairobi.
"The document is a draft at the moment, so some of these proposals have to be taken with a grain of salt," said Tim Kasten, head of the chemicals branch at UNEP. Kasten said the amount of mercury in vaccines is so minute it doesn't threaten the environment. He said there could be provisions to allow mercury for certain uses, such as in dental fillings and vaccines.
But according to an annex in the draft document, there is currently no "allowable use exemption" for mercury products in pharmaceutical products, putting vaccines in the same category as banned mercury-containing paints and pesticides.
"That would be a terrible idea," said Paul Offit, an infectious diseases expert at the University of Pennsylvania. "It would be another tragic example of us not being able to explain to the public where the real risk lies."
Thiomersal has mostly been removed from childhood vaccines in the U.S. and Canada. In some European countries, including Norway and Sweden, manufacturers have been encouraged to make thiomersal-free vaccines — and no other uses of mercury as a medical preservative are allowed.
Fears about thiomersal in vaccines were raised after a flawed medical study in 1998 linked a common childhood injection to autism. Even though that study didn't involve mercury, it ignited fears about vaccines in general, including those containing thiomersal.
Concerns were also heightened after the U.S. decided to largely remove thiomersal from many injections as a precautionary measure in the 1990s. Numerous studies have found no sign the mercury compound is risky but many anti-vaccine groups still believe it may be linked to autism and other health problems.
Experts hope countries won't go overboard in their attempts to control the substance.
"Provided you know the risks and it's handled properly, there isn't a problem," said Andrew Nelson, a toxicology expert at the University of Leeds. "The health of so many millions of children benefit from vaccines containing mercury that an absolute ban is ridiculous."

Increase Protein Intake To Curb Appetite For Calories

Cutting down on calories alone might not do. One should rather include enough protein in the diet in order to avoid excessive consumption of fats and carbohydrates.
A multi-disciplinary team of researchers with the University of Sydney has shown that people on a 10 percent protein diet will eat more snacks between meals and consume significantly more calories than those on a 15 percent protein diet.
The results, published in the online journal PLoS ONE, represent the first scientifically supported evidence that dietary protein plays an important role in appetite and total food consumption in humans, and are an important step in addressing the global obesity epidemic.
"Humans have a particularly strong appetite for protein, and when the proportion of protein in the diet is low this appetite can drive excess energy intake," said lead author Dr Alison Gosby, who conducted the study with Professor Steve Simpson from the School of Biological Sciences.
"Our findings have considerable implications for body weight management in the current nutritional environment, where foods rich in fat and carbohydrates are cheap, palatable, and available to an extent unprecedented in our history."
Protein is the driving force for appetite in many animals, according to Professor Steve Simpson, a world leader in nutrition. The 'protein-leverage' hypothesis, first proposed by Steve Simpson and co-author David Raubenheimer, proposes that animals have a fixed protein target, which they will defend at the expense of other nutrients.

Protein in Soy Better Than Milk For Improving Cholesterol Health

A new study has revealed that supplements of soy protein are much better than milk protein in terms of improving blood levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and thus the overall lipid profile in healthy individuals.The study, which has been published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, investigated the effect of soy and milk protein supplementation on lipids compared with carbohydrate among healthy adults.
Numerous research studies have demonstrated that soy protein reduces LDL ('the bad') cholesterol and increases HDL ('the good') cholesterol, supporting the soy protein heart health and cholesterol-lowering claim that is approved in 12 countries around the globe.
"Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a major health epidemic, as the No. 1 killer of women and men globally," said Elaine Krul, Ph.D., nutrition discovery lead at Solae.
"Research has shown that lowering blood lipids reduces the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke."
"The results of this study reveal that soy protein supplementation intake can help lower blood lipids, thus helping to reduce the risk of CHD in healthy individuals."
In this study, total cholesterol reduction as well as the total/HDL cholesterol ratio reduction was statistically significant with soy protein supplementation compared with carbohydrate.
Compared with milk protein, soy protein supplementation significantly increased HDL and significantly reduced total/HDL cholesterol ratio as well as lowered LDL cholesterol.

Medical tourism in Kerala to bring in $2 billion by 2012

According to the CII-McKinsy report, medical tourism industry in Kerala is expected to be worth $4 billion by 2017. This sector will bring in as much as $2 billion by 2012 as compared to an estimated $333 million in 2006-07. While medical tourists from Germany, France, Switzerland and the US prefer ayurveda treatment, those from West Asia and the UK give more importance to modern medicine.
"Kerala has an immense potential to develop the scope of health tourism in the country. It can become the hub and one of the most preferred destinations in the world for potential health tourists," Sri Lankan minister for minor export crop promotion Reginald Cooray said on Friday. He was inaugurating the two-day international conference and exhibition on health tourism, Kerala Health Tourism 2011, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Hotel Le Meridien.
"Kerala has become an excellent brand by itself in the health tourism sector either because of its reputation in modern as well as traditional systems of treatment like ayurveda, yoga, meditation and homoeopathy or its cost effectiveness. The lengthy costal belt, peculiar geographical location, lusty back waters, a large number of beaches, serene hillocks, moderate climate throughout the year and highly literate populace also have contributed," he said.
Dr Philip Augustine, chairman of the conference and director and CEO of Lakeshore Hospital, said that the medical tourism industry in the state was expected to be worth $4 billion by 2017.
"Ayurveda sector pioneered the whole concept of health tourism in Kerala which is also witnessing a surge in dental and modern medicine for the cost that is around six to ten times lower than anywhere in the world," he said.
Umang Patodia, former chairman of CII, highlighted the preparedness of Indian hospitals to meet the global demands in health tourism with its resources and infrastructure.
The event has brought major hospitals, health insurance companies, policy-makers, tourism promotion boards, hotels and resorts, health, travel and tour operators and international institutions for promotion of health tourism under one roof.
The exhibition being held in connection with the conference is showcasing the products and services of leading hospitals, national and international insurance companies, third-party administrators and travel and tour operators.

Research Reveals Women's G-Spot, Clitoral Orgasms Originate from Same Spot

Studies have been conducted to support the view that the sensitive tissue in the G-spot, a bean-shaped area of the anterior vaginal wall that can augment overall arousal, orgasms and female ejaculation, when stimulated, ay be part of the clitoris and is not a separate erogenous zone.
Dr Helen O'Connell, an internationally recognised Melbourne urologist, who has done significant research on the clitoris, claims that "the vaginal wall is, in fact, the clitoris" and stimulation of the internal parts of the clitoris during vaginal penetration can generate vaginal orgasm.
This finding has lead to sexologists being concerned about the fact that that women may consider themselves to be dysfunctional if they cannot find their G-Spot, but Dr Petra Boynton said that the level of sensitivity in every woman differs.
"We're all different. Some women will have a certain area within the vagina which will be very sensitive, and some won't - but they won't necessarily be in the area called the G-Spot," the Daily telegraph quoted Boynton as saying.
"If a woman spends all her time worrying about whether she has a G-Spot or not, she will focus on just one area and ignore everything else.
"It's telling people that there is a single, best way to have sex, which isn't the right thing to do," she added.

Guidance on Assisted Suicide Launched by RCN

A guidance from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) introduced recently acknowledges the necessity to support nurses and healthcare assistants when patients confide in them about ending their lives.Nurses must give a ear to patients when they want to talk, without the fear or guilt that their actions could be misconstrued as helping patients take their own lives.
Patients must be allowed to come out with their worries and pain.
The guidance from RCN on assisted suicide is applicable in Wales, Scotland, and England where helping others commit suicide is considered illegal.
