Anti-Baldness Drug can Help Curb Men's Inclination Towards Alcohol

Researchers at George Washington University have found that an anti-baldness drug can help some people lose interest in drinking alcohol.According to the study, people who take the drug finasteride (Propecia) in order to slow down receding hairline also tend to reduce their alcohol intake. The researchers observed 535 men under the age of 46 years who took finasteride.
They found that while the drug increased the risk of lower sexual drive, two thirds of men who developed this side effect also reduced their alcohol intake. The study has been published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.
While the researchers were unable to find out why exactly the drug reduced alcohol intake, New York City dermatologist Dr Marc Glashofer said that it could be because of lower self esteem issues. "It's not uncommon for men with hair loss to have higher levels of social anxiety and depression issues, and that may lead them to go out to bars less and have lower alcohol levels", he said.
