Ayurveda Doctor Awards 2010


The government-instituted Best Ayurveda Doctor award for the year 2010 was given away at the Kanakakkunnu Palace Auditorium earlier today. Health Minister P K Sreemathi inaugurated the function along with MLA V Sivankutty and the senior most award winner Dr. Mattakkara Ramachandran Nair.Senior medical officer at the Venganur  Govt  Ayurveda hospital, Dr. G Shyamakrishnan received the Charaka award. HOD of the Salyatantra department of Government Ayurveda College at Thripunithura, Dr. K B Sudhikumar won the Aatreya award.Edakkad Narayanan Vaidyar, who had translated Ayurvedic Literature like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita from Sanskrit to Malayalam, was awarded a special award by the State Government. Dr. K Surendran Nair, Dr. P Sankarankutty, Dr. M Govindan and Dr. R Ramabhadran were recipients of special awards for their contributions to Ayurveda.For his lifetime contributions to the field of Ayurveda, Dr. Mattakkara Ramachandran Nair, the Chief Consultant at the Centre for Holistic Medicine at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, was honoured with the Ashtangaratna. Dr. Susheela Saji, reputed for her successful treatment of cancerand sickle cell anaemia,was the recepient of Vagbhatta award.These awards are being distributed since 2006 as part of a government scheme for the propagation of Ayurveda. Along with Dhanvantari, Charaka, Vagbhata and Aatreya,  Ashtangaratna in 2007 and a few special awards were added to this list in 2009.Dr. K Jyotilal, Rtd. Professor from Government Ayurvada College at Trivandrum, who had written several books on Ayurvedic science, was chosen for the Dhanvantari award.
