Even Moderate Consumption of Alcohol can Cause Cancer

A new study conducted by the cancer council in Australia has warned that drinking even small amounts of alcohol could increase the risk of suffering from cancer.
While it is often assuming that indulging in small amount of drinking is safe, the new study, published in the Medical Journal of Australia, has warned that there is no safe level of consuming alcohol since it produces a carcinogenic effect on the body.Researchers, led by Professor Ian Olver, said that drinking alcohol was no different from asbestos and tobacco and increased the risk cancer in mouth, larynx, oesophagus, pharynx and bowel cancer as well as breast cancer. The researchers said less that 10 percent of Australians knew that alcohol causes and stated the need for warning labels on alcohol bottles. “The previously reported role of alcohol in reducing heart disease risk in light-to- moderate drinkers appears to have been overestimated. Drinking alcohol might have played a dominant role in defining Australian culture for more than 200 years”, the report said.
