No admission approval yet for 5 ayurveda colleges in Gujrat

Of the 10 ayurveda colleges in the state, only five have got approval for admissions this academic year. The remaining five, including Ahmedabad-based Akhandanand Ayurveda College, are yet to get the approval this year.
The 10 ayurveda colleges in the state have 445 seats. Admissions to these professional seats could not be completed along with admis-sions in medical, dental and other para-medical courses held in July as these colleges had failed to get approval from the ayurveda council.
Admissions to seats in colleges which have got approval will now be held along with reshuffling which will take place soon. Officials sources that the prime reason for ayurveda colleges in the state not getting recognition and approval is acute shortage of staff. "There is nearly 30 pc shortage of staff in these colleges. In 1987, teachers were appointed on adhoc basis after which no teacher has been appointed and no teacher has been given promotion since 1989," said officials.
"This is a sorry state of affairs plaguing state ayurveda colleges. If there are no teachers, how is the council expected to give approval to admit students in these colleges?" asked an expert. There are also reports of apathy in these colleges where most of the teachers in government-run ayurveda colleges have not received their salaries for the past three months.
