The Kerala Ayurveda Drugs Control Department has raided the manufacturing unit of the Thrissur-based manufacturer of ‘Ayur Kizhi’ (external heat therapy kit), Institute of Indian Therapy (Ayur Care) and seized sample products, packing materials and other documents for violation of Drugs & Cosmetics Act.The confiscated items were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at Chalakkudi, and registered a case of violation of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 against the company, said Dr N Vimala, drugs controller of Ayurveda. The drug controller said the company was manufacturing and selling the product, Ayur Kizhi, as a branded item without licence.According to the director, the department has given separate licences for ‘Ayur Kizhi Oil’ and ‘Ayur Kizhi Powder’, but no licence has been given exclusively for the single product ’Ayur Kizhi kit’.
The drug inspector of Ernakulam, Dr CY John who led the raid team to the factory at Annamanada, Thrissur on April 11, said his office had issued a show cause notice to the company 15 days ago, but they refused to reply. While speaking to Pharmabiz, he said he took samples of the product, packing materials, sales bills and other documents to produce in the court.Dr Smart P John, assistant drug controller of the department who directed the team, said despite repeated letters to the company asking about licence and other details, not even a single letter was answered by the company so far. The company has been giving wide publicity to their products involving cricket players, hence a case of violation of Drugs and Magical Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement ) Act was also registered. To a query, Dr Vimala said show cause notice has been issued to the company for violation of DMROA Act. The company is giving advertisement for their other two items, Ayur Lavana Thailam and Ayur Vaji Thailam. The former is claimed to be a remedy for reducing fat and the latter for increasing sexual power, Dr Vimala said.
