Do your seasonal allergies affect your eyes? You probably will not be happy to hear that a study appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences projects that the 2011 allergy season will be 27 days longer in the upper latitudes of North America.
According to Paul Karpecki, O.D., F.A.A.O., Clinical Director, Koffler Vision Group, Lexington, Kentucky, seasonal allergy sufferers can do the following to keep symptoms at bay:
- Stay indoors as much as possible on high pollen days
- Be careful with allergy medications as they can dry out the eyes
- If you use eye drops, be sure they are preservative free
