Using Steroids For Bodybuilding Causes Depression and Damages Overall Health

Anabolic-androgenic steroids that are used to build bigger and stronger body causes some powerful and contradictory conditions, says a new research.
Using Steroids For Bodybuilding Causes Depression and Damages Overall Health

The research conducted by Clarkson University explained that anabolic steroids can cause acne, increased body hair, aggressive behavior, fluid retention, elevated blood pressure, sleeplessness, feelings of low libido, increased sex drive, increased appetite, loss of head hair, and enlarged breast tissue in men.

Keitz, a student in the doctor of physical therapy program, worked under the professor of physical therapy and physician assistant studies Ali Boolani, said that people who take body-building steroids usually go through psychological changes like depression and homicidal feelings.

Bronson, a senior pre-physical therapy honors student majoring in psychology, advised people not to use steroids as it's sad to risk ones health to get ahead.

Scientists Find Clues to Aging from Long-Lived Lemurs

Scientists Find Clues to Aging from Long-Lived LemursAging is the process of growing older and represents the accumulation of changes in a person over time. This process has often intrigued scientists from across the globe. Now it is the Duke University researchers who are trying to obtain clues to aging from long-lived lemurs. The conventional wisdom in longevity research is that smaller species live shorter lives than the larger species. However, the researchers found an exception to this pattern in a group of hamster-sized lemurs. With a physiological quirk, these lemurs are able to put their bodies in standby mode, thus increasing their longevity.

When Jonas the lemur died in January 2015, just five months short of his thirtieth birthday, he was the oldest of his kind. Jonas belonged to a long-lived clan, and dwarf lemurs are known to live two to three times longer than similar-sized animals. Researchers combed through more than 50 years of medical records on hundreds of dwarf lemurs and three other lemur species at the Duke Lemur Center for clues to their exceptional longevity.

The data revealed that how long the lemurs live and how fast they age correlates with the amount of time they spend in a state of suspended animation known as torpor. Hibernating lemurs live up to 10 years longer than their non-hibernating cousins. Sarah Zehr, study co-author, said, "Dwarf lemurs like Jonas go into a semi-hibernation state for three months or less in captivity, but even that seems to confer added longevity. Hibernating dwarf lemurs can reduce their heart rate from 200 to eight beats per minute. Breathing slows, and the animals' internal thermostat shuts down. Instead of maintaining a steady body temperature, they warm up and cool down with the outside air."

Marina Blanco, study co-author, said, "It may also be that torpor increases longevity by protecting cells against the buildup of oxidative damage that is a normal by-product of breathing and metabolism. If your body is not working full time metabolically-speaking, you will age more slowly and live longer. Because lemurs are more closely related to humans than mice are, the research may eventually help scientists identify anti-aging genes in humans."

Higher Levels of Hormone Testosterone Linked to Diabetes Risk, Prostate Enlargement

Higher levels of the hormone testosterone, specifically an unnatural overabundance, is linked to increased diabetes risk and prostate enlargement, claims a new study.
Higher Levels of Hormone Testosterone Linked to Diabetes Risk, Prostate Enlargement

According to the researchers, this has important implications for millions of men, who use testosterone supplements to counteract low testosterone. They may be putting themselves at risk for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) -- or, simply, prostate enlargement.

Building on previous research they conducted with the Tsimane, an isolated indigenous population in central Bolivia, the researchers examined the prevalence of BPH among a group of approximately 350 adult males.

Within that group, advanced cases of prostate enlargement were practically non-existent. As a correlating factor, the Tsimane also have relatively low levels of testosterone that remain constant over their lives.

"Abdominal ultrasounds show they have significantly smaller prostates -- an age-adjusted 62% smaller prostate size -- as compared to men in the US.," said the paper's lead author Benjamin Trumble from University of California, Santa Barbara.

"BPH is not inevitable for Tsimane men," Trumble said. "We also know testosterone and androgens are involved because of studies showing that eunuchs and people who don't have testes have very low rates of BPH," Trumble added.

Despite having low testosterone overall, Tsimane men with higher testosterone levels (but still significantly lower than those of men in industrial populations) have larger prostates.

In addition to measuring prostate size, the researchers looked at the levels of glycated haemoglobin in the subjects' blood. Glycated haemoglobin -- HbA1c -- is a measure of long-term glucose exposure that in turn indicates the risk of diabetes.

"Despite having subclinical levels of HbA1c, men with higher HbA1c had larger prostates," Trumble pointed out.

The findings appeared in the Journals of Gerontology: Medical Sciences.

Female Hormone Estrogen Has a Big Role to Play in Male Breast Cancer

Men too can get breast cancer and those with naturally high levels of the female hormone estrogen may be at a greater risk, shows a new study.

Men with the highest levels of estrogen were two-and-a-half times more likely to develop breast cancer than men with the lowest levels of the hormone, the researchers found.

"We have shown for the first time that just like some forms of the cancer in women, estrogen has a big role to play in male breast cancer," said study author professor Tim Key from Cancer Research UK.

"So now the challenge is to find out exactly what this hormone is doing to trigger this rare form of the disease in men, and why some men have higher levels of estrogen in their blood. Our discovery is a crucial step forward in understanding the factors behind male breast cancer," he noted.

The research at the National Cancer Institute in the United States was part of an international collaboration between Cancer Research UK, the National Cancer Institute and others.

The researchers compared estrogen levels in 101 men who went on to develop breast cancer with 217 healthy men. Although rare, the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of male breast cancer are very similar to breast cancer in women. The main risk of developing the disease in men is age and almost eight in 10 cases are diagnosed in those aged 60 and older.

"This early research is crucial in understanding why these men get breast cancer -- so that one day we can treat it more effectively," Julie Sharp, head of health information at Cancer Research UK, noted.

The findings were detailed in the Journal of Clinical Oncology

New study on acupuncture to reduce pain and inflammation in children with acute appendicitis

New Rochelle, NY, May 12, 2015--Acupuncture was shown to lessen pain and reduce the underlying inflammation in pediatric patients with a diagnosis of acute appendicitis, according to a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, a peer-reviewed publication from Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers. The article is available free on the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine website until June 12, 2015.
IMAGEAlan L. Nager, MD, MHA and coauthors from Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California assessed subjective pain among pediatric patients immediately before and 20 minutes after treatment by a licensed acupuncturist. The researchers also measured two biomarkers of inflammation in blood samples taken before, during, and 30 minutes after needle placement.
In the article "Effects of Acupuncture on Pain and Inflammation in Pediatric Emergency Department Patients with Acute Appendicitis: A Pilot Study," the authors report that the patients' subjective pain decreased, likely due to the acupuncture treatment. Furthermore, one of the inflammatory biomarkers (white blood cell count) "showed a modest and noticeable drop," suggesting "that the effectiveness of acupuncture may have a biophysiological basis."

One Of The Most Important Scientists In The World: “Most Cancer Research Is Largely A Fraud”

“Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud, and that the major cancer research organisations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them.”
The above quote comes from Linus Pauling, Ph.D, and two time Nobel Prize winner in chemistry (1901-1994). He is considered one of the most important scientists in history. He is one of the founders of quantum chemistry and molecular biology, who was also a well known peace activist. He was invited to be in charge of the Chemistry division of the Manhattan Project, but refused. He has also done a lot of work on military applications, and has pretty much done and seen it all when it comes to the world of science. A quick Google search will suffice if you’d like to learn more about him.
This man has been around the block, and obviously knows a thing or two about this subject. And he’s not the only expert from around the world expressing similar beliefs and voicing his opinion.
Here is another great example of a hard hitting quote when it comes to scientific fraud and manipulation. It comes from Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and long time Editor in Chief of the New England Medical Journal (NEMJ), which is considered to be one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world. I apologize if you have seen it before in my articles, but it is quite the statement.
“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine”
The list goes on and on. Dr. John Bailer, who spent 20 years on the staff of the National Cancer Institute and is also a former editor of its journal, publicly stated in a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that:
“My overall assessment is that the national cancer program must be judged a qualified failure. Our whole cancer research in the past 20 years has been a total failure.”
He also alluded to the fact that cancer treatment, in general, has been a complete failure.
Another interesting point is the fact that most of the money donated to cancer research is spent on animal research, which has been considered completely useless by many. For example, in 1981 Dr. Irwin Bross, the former director of the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Institute (largest cancer research institute in the world), said that:
“The uselessness of most of the animal model studies is less well known. For example, the discovery of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of human cancer is widely-heralded as a triumph due to use of animal model systems. However, here again, these exaggerated claims are coming from or are endorsed by the same people who get the federal dollars for animal research. There is little, if any, factual evidence that would support these claims. Practically all of the chemotherapeutic agents which are of value in the treatment of human cancer were found in a clinical context rather than in animal studies.”
Today, treating illness and disease has a corporate side. It is an enormously profitable industry, but only when geared towards treatment, not preventative measures or cures, and that’s an important point to consider.
Another quote that relates to my point above was made by Dr. Dean Burk, an American biochemist and a senior chemist for the National Cancer Institute. His paper, “The Determination of Enzyme Dissociation Constants ,” published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in 1934, is one of the most frequently cited papers in the history of biochemistry.
“When you have power you don’t have to tell the truth. That’s a rule that’s been working in this world for generations. And there are a great many people who don’t tell the truth when they are in power in administrative positions.”
He also stated that:
“Fluoride causes more human cancer deaths than any other chemical. It is some of the most conclusive scientific and biological evidence that I have come across in my 50 years in the field of cancer research.”
In the April 15th, 2015 edition of Lancet, the UK’s leading medical journal, editor in chief Richard Horton stated:
“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Science has taken a turn toward darkness.”
n 2005 Dr. John P.A. Ioannidis, currently a professor in disease prevention at Stanford University, published the most widely accessed article in the history of the Public Library of Science (PLoS) entitled Why Most Published Research Findings Are False. In the report, he stated:
“There is increasing concern that most current published research findings are false.”
In 2009, the University of Michigan’s comprehensive cancer center published an analysis that revealed popular cancer studies are false, and that there were fabricated results arising due to conflicts of interest. They suggested that the fabricated results were a result of what would work best for drug companies. After all, a large portion of cancer research is funded directly by them.
There is so much information out there, and so much of it is coming from people who have been directly involved in these proceedings. There is really no shortage of credible sources willing to state that we live in a world of scientific fraud and manipulation.
All of this can be attributed to the “corporatocracy” we live in today, where giant corporations owned by a select group of “elite” people have basically taken control over the planet and all of its resources.
This is precisely why so many people are flocking towards alternative treatment, as well as focusing on cancer prevention. Much of what we surround ourselves with on a daily basis has been linked to cancer. Everything from pesticides, GMOs, multiple cosmetic products, certain “foods,” smoking, and much much more. This is something that is never really emphasized, we always seem to just assume that donating money to charities will make the problem go away, despite the fact that their business practices are highly questionable.
That being said, so many people have had success with alternative treatments like cannabis oil – combined with a raw diet or even incorporated into their chemotherapy regimen – that we should not feel as though there is no hope for the future.
The official stance on cannabis is a great example of the very practice of misinformation that I’m talking about. Its anti-tumoral properties have been demonstrated for decades, yet no clinical trials are taking place.
I am going to leave you with this video, as I have done in previous articles. It provides a little food for thought. Ignorance is not the answer, although this information can be scary to consider, it’s nothing to turn a blind eye toward

Adding Walnuts to Your Diet may Increase Your Lifespan, Save You from Colon Cancer

Consumption of a walnut-enriched diet could increase your life span, as a new study from the Harvard Medical School has shown that it slows down the growth of colon cancer.
A new animal study led by Dr. Christos Mantzoros, has indicated that a diet containing walnuts may slow colorectal tumor growth by causing beneficial changes in cancer genes.

This is the first study that evaluates whether walnut consumption can cause changes to micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNA), the nucleotides that are involved in altering gene expression.

Dr. Mantzoros said that their research showed that a walnut diet causes significant changes in the expression profile of miRNAs in localized colorectal cancer tissue and that a walnut diet incorporates protective fatty acids in the colonic tumor either through its direct effects or through additive or synergistic effects of multiple other compounds present in walnuts.

He added that future studies were required and they were optimistic of the role of miRNAs as biomarkers of disease and prognosis and may demonstrate a potential therapeutic target for colorectal cancer treatment.

The study results found that a smaller tumor size was associated with greater percentage of omega-3s in tumor tissues, suggesting that ALA may provide a protective benefit.

ALA is an essential fatty acid critical to various body processes and is known to reduce inflammation. Walnuts are the only nut that contain a significant source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) (2.5 grams per ounce). Walnuts also contain a variety of antioxidants, (3.7 mmol/ounce), and numerous vitamins and minerals.

Colorectal cancer is the 3rd most common type of cancer worldwide and is second to only lung cancer as the leading cause of death in Western Countries.

The findings are published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
