Realising the tremendous potential of ayurveda, the State government is in the process of setting up a Global Ayurveda Village.The government has allotted Rs 5 crore to launch the project and appointed Kinfra as the nodal agency.The village is expected to be located in Thiruvananthapuram district. The Rs 200-crore project in three phases will be completed within four years.Senior Kinfra officials said here that 12 globally reputed companies that had responded to the advertisement to prepare the detailed project report have been shortlisted.
LAND ACQUISITION
The agency is hoping to acquire at least 200 acres of land for constructing the village and 148 acres will be acquired almost immediately in the lower regions of the Western Ghats near Ponmudi, the officials said.The project was also featured at the recent Emerging Kerala 2012 investor meet in a bid to scout investors, the officials said, adding that a Malaysian group has evinced interest in it.The Gobal Ayurveda Village is unique in that it is the first of its kind in ayurvedic health tourism from the government sector.The proposal is aimed at global acceptance of ayurveda by the world community at large and to transform Kerala into the world capital of ayurveda.The project will be designed in such a way that it blends the natural habitats of Kerala with ayurvedic tradition in a seamless manner, the officials said.As the project is on PPP basis, investors will be given the opportunity for promoting health tourism. Environment-friendly huts and cottages will be constructed to attract more tourists to the village which will have specific standards to treat the demands of international tourists.
ONE-STOP DESTINATION
All supporting clinical departments will also come up at the village. The village will be a one-stop destination for all the available ayurvedic treatments in a modern and scientific environment.The project envisages setting up a fully equipped ayurvedic treatment centre (Centre of Clinical Excellence) to which people from around the world will be attracted.The concept is based on incorporating the amenities of most modern scientific developments with classical ayurveda, the officials added.
