The usual methods and medicines to control the blood sugar level might just become a thing of the past. The stress is on traditional ayurveda medicines change in lifestyles to tackle diabetes and obesity.
Acknowledging that diabetes is a disorder that can cripple an entire generation if not a country, the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) has opened a separate clinic for free diabetes check up in Jaipur on Monday.
Besides free diabetes test, NIA would also offer many other tests free of cost which would help in diagnosing types of diabetes and obesity. The doctors would also calculate the body mass index of people, to find out obese cases.
Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad talked about the increasing threat of non-communicable diseases especially diabetes during his recent visit to the city last week. Azad had also visited NIA during his Jaipur visit. In and around seven cities of the state, the health ministry has already started free screening of diabetes. Now, to intensify fight against diabetes, the NIA has also offered Ayurveda treatment.
NIA director Ajay Kumar Sharma said, "Focusing especially on diabetes, a separate clinic has been opened at NIA's outdoor patient department from October 1.
He said efforts would be made to detect diabetes in the early stages. It would help patients control diabetes early. He said Ayurveda is also helpful in treating diabetes.
Unit head Dr Pawan Kumar said the unit would also conduct obesity related cases.
