What is Food? By Carol Harblin

 People eat for several reasons other than to sustain their life and health. People eat to relieve stress at the end of the day, some eat socially as entertainment value, and some eat when they are feeling lonely.
No matter how much or how little a person eats, it is important to understand the relationships people have with food. Food has so many different associations to people based upon their backgrounds and their family dynamics.
There are times in peoples lives when food is used replaced for love. Those people didn't receive enough attention or love in their past, and they are trying to fill that void with food.
One of the most essential principles to understand as a holistic dietitian and doctor is to see the whole person and NOT the symptom. In addition to helping and seeing the whole person, we have to see their relationships with food and other aspects of their lifestyle.
Understand how active the person is also. If someone runs and cycles everyday and another only stays inside and sits on the couch, then those two people will have a much different diet plan, and also they will have a different constitution as well.
We can't feed all people the same menu items if we are all uniquely different. Eating quinoa or whole wheat roti may be good for some, but to others it may be very dangerous.
Understand the person 100%.
