A Low-Calorie Diet Lets You Live Longer

An ongoing research has suggested that by simply eating less man’s life on earth can be lengthened!
Even since man was created he has been craving for lasting youth and long life. There is very little in his kitty that has been left untried to maintain youth and sustain life!
The ancient man had his own recipes that were a blend of nature and spirituality, while the modern man aspires for health and long life through effortless means. He seeks nirvana in miracle pills and fad diets, with a bit of exercise thrown in for effect !
Sensing the need of a stressed generation whose idea of leisure is to sit and munch at the foot of the telly, researchers are probing all avenues that will enhance good health in a slothful populace. Some recent studies have revealed that by simply eating less it is possible to lengthen one’s life.
The energy we use to perform our daily functions is assessed in terms of the metabolic rate. According to Dr Michael Mosley, a presenter on BBC science show ‘Horizon’, an ongoing research has indicated that high metabolic rate is a risk factor for an early death. It also increases the number of free radicals in our body and enhances ageing.
If we encourage or pressurize our body to restrict the calories we consume, through fasting or through other methods, our metabolic rate slows down and this in turn slows down ageing thereby increasing our life span. Apparently a 40% calorie reduction increases lifespan by 20 years.
According to Mosley this method is the only method that has ever been proven to prolong life. The proposal has been substantiated by works done on lab animals and all sorts of other organisms, including dogs. He believes that it is not necessary to eat three meals a day and that humans do so merely out of habit!
Dr. Mosley also revealed how certain communities in the USA and Japan have strictly followed this low-calorie diet and have successfully increased their lifespan in comparison to the global average.
