Taking cancer by the horns

What Ayurveda had always vouched for, modern scientific research has recently proved. Cow’s urine is indeed beneficial for us and it increases the efficacy of medicines used for treatment of infections and cancers.According to evidence gathered by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India’s premier research body, cow’s urine distillate contains antioxidants that prevent formation of cancers and has properties that fight infectious diseases. It also contains anti-cancer agents, which kill cancer cells. The CSIR had sponsored studies on the medicinal and chemical properties of panchagavya, the collective term describing the five useful products obtained from cows. They are milk, ghee, curd, urine and gobar (dung). CSIR-constituent laboratory, the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow, found that cow urine or gomutra is a bio-enhancer of medicines prescribed for infections and cancers.Gomutra increases the efficacy and medicinal properties of these medicines and makes them potentially effective to fight ailments.Recently, even Union minister of health Ghulam Nabi Azad, had informed Parliament that studies by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences had revealed that the panchagavya was 'safe, non-toxic and an effective immuno-stimulant'. It stimulates the immune system and protects the body from invading germs.Though Ayurveda had always propagated the medicinal properties of panchagavya, a strong research study had not supported it so far. Now, the CSIR-sponsored re-search and studies by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences have given the much-needed scientific and medicinal support to the age-old claims.Though it was already known that panchagavya was useful for treating health issues like excess fat, joint pains, eating disorders and asthma, the cancer angle is also a new breakthrough.Researchers from Thanjavur-based Muthaiyah Research Foundation and Marudupandiyar College also conducted studies on the medicinal efficacy of panchagavya and found that cow urine distillate fights disease-causing microorganisms. Two years ago, the National Environmental Engineer Research Institute had noted that cow urine distillate protected DNA from damage in healthy people and repaired damaged DNA in patients.
