"The newly-launched postgraduate course in anesthesiology in Ayurveda - MD (Sangyaharan) - will soon be started by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), and research in all the subjects in Ayurveda should be assessed by applying parameters of modern medicine so that it will be accepted at large," said Arun Jamkar, vice-chancellor of MUHS. Jamkar was speaking after inaugurating the 14th national conference of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Indian Medicine (AAIM) at National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA)'s auditorium of the Tilak Ayurved College on Saturday. The three-day conference has been organised to exchange thoughts on recent researches in anesthesiology. "There should be evidence-based approach in ayurveda to make it acceptable across the world. The evidence-based approach will also bring in recognition to this ancient system of Indian medicine," Jamkar said. Speaking on the occasion, anaesthesiologist K K Pandey, an expert in anesthesiology from Banaras Hindu University and president of Association of Anesthesiologists of Indian Medicine, said, "Uplift of teaching and training and research in Ayurvedic system of medicine, especially in the subjects of surgery, eye, ENT, paediatric, gynaecology and obstetrics, emergency and intensive care services can only be done with the help postgraduate speciality. State government and central government should think over this issue so that the better health care can be provided to poor and needy in rural areas. Anaesthesiologist D P Puranik said, "More than 40 research papers will be presented during the conference, including 20 guest speakers."
