Next 10 Years, India will Need About 15 Lakh Doctors, 25 Lakh Nurses and One Crore Paramedical Staff"

In India about one lakh more hospital beds are created in the next 10 years, India will need about 15 lakh doctors, 25 lakh nurses and one crore paramedical staff. To meet this requirement, India will need 600 new medical colleges and 1500 new nursing and paramedical colleges. All this will need huge resources and financial allocation on the part of State and Central Governments. The health industry will also have to contribute towards this gigantic task.
According to a report by expert group on Universal Health Coverage, there is an immediate need to establish public health training institutions. It also recommends establishment of health science universities.India is emerging as a major healthcare destination. Hospitals in India provide low cost, high quality medical care with proven clinical outcomes. The success rate of medical treatment in India is very high.
According to an ASSOCHAM study the market size of medical tourism sector will increase from Rs 4500 crore at present to Rs 10,800 crore by 2015. The inflow of medical tourists will also increase to approximately 32 lakh by 2015.
In addition to healthcare facilities like cardiology, orthopaedic surgery and urology, India is also offering services like yoga, meditation and ayurveda which is becoming increasingly popular for various ailments among foreign patients from all over the world.
