Ban on Actions While Singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'

The City of York Council's group, Sure Start mother and toddler group has banned children from making gestures while singing the nursery rhyme, twinkle twinkle little star' as it could offend deaf people.
The action one makes with the use of forefingers and thumb for star signifies vagina to deaf people. So there are chances that the deaf get offended by it. Therefore, it has been decided that henceforth no signs would be used while signing the poem.
Spokeswoman for City of York Council denied it was a case of political correctness, insisting it was more a sensible decision taken to prevent deaf children or deaf parents being offended by the use of the gesture.
One parent was of the view, "It is good that kids are aware of other people's methods of communication but has anyone actually asked a deaf person if they take offence to it?"
Spokesperson for Campaign Against Political Correctness said, "It is not at all unacceptable. For generations kids have performed while signing this poem and now some people feel it is offensive for deaf people."
