Experts from Europe, America and the Czech Republic will attend a two-day international conference on the latest developments in naturopathy at Jeddah InterContinental on Wednesday.
Dr. Tarek Lingawi, executive director of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah, will open the conference, which is organized by his hospital. It includes a training workshop.
Dr. Walid, consultant for naturotherapy and deputy chairman of the conference, said the conference would discuss matters related to shoulder pain and how to apply naturopathy to treat the problem.
Research papers will also be presented on treatment of osteoarthritis, which is very common among elderly Saudis and expatriates in the Kingdom.
Dr. Patricia Sullivan from the University of Boston, who specializes in shoulder pain will give a workshop on the subject during the conference. She is president of the International Physical Therapy Consultants.
Dr. Walid said the Kingdom’s interest in naturotherapy started in 1985 when the first group of Saudi students specialized in medicine graduated. Later many universities in the Kingdom opened departments for naturopathy. The Saudi Society for Naturotherapy was established in 1991.
